Axon, a global leader in connected technologies for law enforcement, was chosen by Italpol, a leading company in the field of surveillance and investigation, as part of a strategic plan that aims to equip all its GPG, namely the Special Guards Jurors, of the most advanced technological systems.

THE BENEFITS AND CHARACTERISTICS OF AXON SOLUTIONS

“The decision to choose Axon was determined by two main factors – emphasizes Marco Dal Puppo, Security Manager of Italpol. – The first are the specific features for the needs of the supervisory institute, such as the robustness, the charging time, the quality of the batteries that guarantees the use for the entire shift, the speed of data transfer and the possibility of interfacing with your own systems. The second factor, even more important, is their evidence management system Evidence.com. Another factor that determined the choice of Axon was the need to find a long-term solution that was scalable and flexible”.

As part of the project, the service equipment of Italpol operators was integrated with the device Axon Body 2, a wearable camera single unit that allows you to capture video and audio in HD quality while the guards focus on situations, A field of view of 143 p.m.. and more than 12 hours of autonomy. The possibility of having video footage of any critical situations during the shift of service has a twofold advantage: first, to represent an element of deterrence against those who manifest aggression, and which could commit violent acts against the security officers; the second, to document the development of the facts in the most critical cases, thus protecting the correct work of the guards from reconstructions of flawed or tendentious facts.

At the same time, the office integrated Evidence.com, Axon’s cloud platform for digital evidence management. Evidence.com allows you to safely and easily manage digital evidence, such as video and audio, as well as any type of document, such as PDF and Word files. It is accessible via cloud and, therefore, ready to use. Each wearable camera has a unique ID; when the guard places the unit in the base, the movie is automatically downloaded to their account, where you can add notes and other files on the case.

The Technical Service plays a crucial role within the Supervisory Institute as the technical equipment contributes around 70% of the score in tenders. Always attentive to the technological development, Italpol has recently realized Work Force Management, a solution in order to optimize the management of the operators’ work, to reduce the manual processes, to simplify the procedures and to allow a strong reduction of the intervention times. This system, thanks to the use of the web portal and the app to be installed on the smartphones of operators, allows you to view the position of operators in the field and report all the activities carried out by them.

The Axon Body 2 and Evidence.com cameras have been integrated directly with Work Force Management to match the information collected by the system with video images.

THE EXPERIMENTATION AND RESULTS OF AXON SOLUTIONS WITH ITALPOL

Italpol has started the field testing of Axon Body 2 in the railway sector and, more precisely, in Roma Termini station, collaborating with the working group responsible for safety of Grandi Stazione Rail Spa. During the experimental phase, which lasted 30 days for a total of about 500 shifts, 77 videos were made concerning all areas of Roma Termini station. The Special Guards Jurors documented their work by carrying out inspections, local inspections and removals and, thanks to the use of Axon Body 2, were able to document and certify the correct performance of the service.

The use of wearable cameras Axon Body 2 has allowed to significantly increase the level of security inside the station, generating a greater perception of security both by users operating daily inside the station, both by travellers who have transited through the facility during the experimental period.

“Thanks to the use of Axon Body 2 and Evidence.com, Italpol is able to guarantee the safety of its Special Security Guards, to have complete video and audio recordings and the ability to easily store and retrieve this information safely”, says Loris Angeloni, Managing Director of Axon Enterprise Italy.

Currently Italpol uses the wearable camera Axon Body 2 at the stations of Roma Termini and Roma Tiburtina, at the airport Orio al Serio in Bergamo and at the Olympic Stadium in Rome.
